On January 4th, 2024, a 42 year old Utah man, Michael Haight, fatally shot seven of his family members before committing suicide with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Michael had been under investigation by the Enoch Police department for domestic abuse in 2020, and two weeks prior to the mass killing, his wife, Tausha Haight, started divorce proceedings.
At approximately 4:00 pm on January 4, Enoch police officers were dispatched to the Haight residence to conduct a welfare check requested by a family friend after Tausha had missed an appointment. Upon arrival, officers located eight family members deceased from gunshot wounds.
The victims were identified as:
Michael Haight (42 y/o male, perpetrator)
Tausha Haight (40 y/o female, wife)
Gail Earl (78 y/o female, Tausha's mother)
17 y/o girl
12 y/o girl
7 y/o girl
7 y/o boy
4 y/o boy
Authorities determined that Michael was the perpetrator, as he was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting his family members. Michael was under investigation for domestic abuse allegations made by his eldest daughter, who claimed he had "become assaultive" and had choked her in the past. Tausha believed filing charges were unnecessary, and police said there was no indication of any violent behavior on Michael's part.
